TOM

Tom was a really audacious guy. One time, he had some stolen things  of little  value and he had to embark an airplane. He was really conscientious because if they had known about the stolen things, it was for sure they had confiscated it.

Showing like if he was lackadaisical, because he didn’t wanted no linking,  He sat quietly. After a while, this tall looking guy depicts what they had stolen from him. This made tom a little nervous, but he was used to pilfer and not get caught.

Acting very prudent he ordered profusions of food, but still the guy he had stolen the things from rankled him. His anger made him rebuke the guy. He told himself to be serene because his work was everything but slovenly, but still he felt the butterflies.

After a long flight he finally got home and everything went fine , and he continued stilling  with success.

Confession Tuesday

ÑAÑECA

I have a problem , I think.  I don’t know why every time  I have a fight with my parents, I have to cry. Its not normal .Is the crying that when you cry , you cant even breath.  Every time we are having  problems, I tell myself not to cry .please don’t  cry! I don’t know if is because I think  to much about it  , or  I just cant hold myself.  I get so mad.  They start yelling at me to stop ,  That  it is  immature   . I accept it , I do think  it is immature, but I just don’t know how to stop. Every time  I try , is even worse! I seriously cant breath. I even get scared.  The best I can do is run into my room and cry until l  slowly stop.  I feel ¨ñañeca¨,  every time this happens.  I cant stand people  who are ¨nañeca¨ !and maybe , I am just like them!  (¨ÑAÑECA¨ is someone who is always whining. )    I just wish I could hold myself and just act all  mature and strong..

Mothers day

Woke up thinking if I should give it to her or don’t.   Called ,  she was still asleep ,so I  had time to think. Watched Greys Anatomy  and finally she was awake. I went  in to  her room to congrats her with out any present at all. She seem happy , but not enough. Soon , my mind was full with thoughts so I  just explained that I had a present for her but that I was kind of embarrassed to give it to her , because for me it was a little bit  ¨cursi¨. We laughed. I went running to  get it and  felt  really scared .  I gave it to her and  ran back to my room .

I started getting ready ,because we were going  to have lunch with the family . I was anxious to see why my mom had to say . I went down and smiled at her. She called and told me how much she had loved it and that she even cried! I was surprise.   We hugged  and we had a great time with  our family.

Mother´s Day present

Dear mami:
Six word memoir started on Smith  magazine. They asked  people to write  about their life in six words, no more, no less. The result was not what they were expecting. Often these memoirs are sad , funny and always concise.
Mrs. Meadows asked us to write one for our mom, and I didn´t think twice about what  I was going to write for you.
I wrote My 6 word memoir thinking about all your good  qualities: Your  intelligence , your love and what I admire the most, your kindness.
Thank you  Mami  for everything you do for me .  I know you work really hard and maybe before  I couldn´t understand, but now,  I´m always going to be very thankful.
 I LOVE YOU MAMI.

The house on Mango Street

The house on Mango Street by Sandra Cisnero, is a memoir wrote in vignettes. This story is of a girl name Esperanza that along with her family have move to a lot of places in Chicago. In these different places, they had always had different problems and they always talked of ¨ the real house¨ they were someday going to have. This house was going to be big, with stairs, big yard etc.  So, they finally move to this house on Mango Street that was supposed to be ¨ the real house¨. For Esperanza, it was the opposite of ¨ the real house¨. Al do, they didn’t have any problem, it wasn´t pretty, didn´t had a big yard, etc.

In the memoir she introduces us to all her family, her parents, Carlos, Kiki, Nenny, and her. She tell us different things of them for
KristenBP/page2

example: how the boys don’t let them play with them, how her mom regrets not studying, how Nenny and her don’t look like sisters but they are alike in other things like there laugh or how she is the oldest so she has to take a little bit more of responsibility.

She goes on introducing all her neighbors and their different problems like jealousy, ¨ machismo¨ , physical abuse..  and she realized how her neighborhood is really like and why people where scared of it .

For example Rafaela who is this beautiful woman that her husband ,because she is so beautiful,  is afraid she will run of, so he doesn´t let her go out.  So on Tuesdays because her husband comes late that day, she offers one dollar to the kids as a reward of buying her a papaya and a coconut juice so it could make her Remember the beautiful island.  This explains her husband machismo and jealousy.

KristenBP/page3

Or Sally , who is this beautiful girl who was physically abused by her dad because   she is so beautiful and  for him that’s bad   for the religion they practice.    That  shows  ¨machismo¨ , and jealousy.

By the end of the story she realized that the house on Mango Street is where she comes from really, so she is going to go study but she is never going to forget Mango Street .The title the memoir is because her house on Mango Street.  The significance of the title is because that house at the end of the story means a lot to her. And maybe because just like the mango at first,  she was green and she didn’t understand but after a while  the mango matures just like her in the end when she comes to realize everything she didn’t understand.

The line I liked the most was the last one. ¨They will not know I have gone away to come back. For the ones I left behind. For the ones who cannot out.¨  because  she is saying that she will study and go after her dreams , but she is never going to forget where she came from .

KristenBP/page4

I liked  how the story shows how Esperanza is  slowing realizing about the cultural differences found in her life. Before people will roll up their car windows and she wouldn’t know why but now she knows they do so because they are afraid that they would get mugged by the people living in Mango street.   This is due,  to the stereotype that follows Mexicans.  I really liked  the lessons of the story and how at the end she decides to go after her dreams  , but never be ashamed that she comes from Mango street.

The Catcher In The Rye

The Catcher In The Rye is still a relevant book at this time   because in the aspect of the book it has not change much from the 1950 to 2011.  In those times it was criticize by many people, but now is basically what is   happening now a days.  I understand people criticizing in those times because it is unusual for people at that time reading books like this one  because of its profanity.  I almost thought is was not a  old book because of what happens , but some of the talking  showed me  that it was from 1950.

I  think this is a good book for teenagers because  it introduces what is coming ahead for  teenagers at this time, but if I were living in the 1950
KristenBP/page2

I probably would had seen it inappropriate , because those times were totally different. So , I do think its fine  to make teenagers read this book.

They say it has made people do  inappropriate things , but I don’t think  the book leaded those people to do it  . It was just there craziness , and people who are against it  use it as a excuse.

People who are against It,  are probably  people who are really religious  . I think this is because in the book Holden shows no interest in religion and practically makes fun of it. This could make religious people angry because  its going against there believe , and   probably that is why  they refused to let there siblings read it .  Even do I am catholic , and I am religious  , the book did not insult me , because that’s  the writer point of view and it should not affect anyone. Everyone  has different  believes and we should accept it .

I believe  everyone should have a chance to read this book because it is   really good.  I don’t think it is inappropriate at this times because
KristenBP/page3

everything has change  ,  the vocabulary is  a little bit strong, but I do think is a excellent book for teenagers and that they should make teenagers read it . It even makes you realize  how times have change , and how people have to accept  everyone believes .

Bobby´s  Baseball Glove

I stared at    the glove and knew it was perfect. I remember him playing with   it, so happy.  He was a red headed boy, most of them are really grumpy but he was more than nice. I loved him.  Even do he was younger than me; he was like a role model.

It was almost his birthday and I needed to get him something.  He was so hard to buy a gift for,  because he was so simple   that you never knew what he liked and  what he didn´t like. But this time my gift had to be perfect.  I thought about   buying him a  Slinky.   Even do it was the most popular  toy , he didn´t seem to be so interested in it ,  so I didn´t.  Maybe he did liked it  but he didn’t show it, so I was really confused.  One day before his birthday, I went walking down Adam Street, when I saw this peculiar store.    It was full of all kind of toys.  Finally I said.  I ran into the store, it was beautiful.  But like I said, I didn´t have any idea of what to buy him. I went through every line of toys when I saw something.  A glove.  I remembered him talking a few weeks ago that he liked baseball. Then it hit me. I had to buy him a glove!! It was the perfect gift. I went to every glove looking for a lefty.  Until the very end that I saw one. The very single one.  It was kind of rotten, so I went   looking for the owner.  I found the owner and said ¨hey sir; do you happen to have another lefty baseball globe? ¨  The owner nodded.  I didn’t have any  other choice.

I went home and tried to clean as good as I could.  It got better, but not perfect.

The day came and it was all rapped up.  I was so nervous.  I couldn´t wait. Finally he woke up and  he opened the gift.  The smile in his face was not normal. He started crying and then he hugged me.  ¨Thank you! that is  exactly what I wanted you are the best! I love you. ¨  He said.  I couldn´t helped, tears felt from my eyes to.

First thing he did when he   had it was write poetry in it.  I was surprised.  But then I read them, and they were incredible.  He was so intelligent.

Day after day we practiced. He was so good!!  I thought one day he could even be in the big leads! Until that day. October 4th of 1945. We were practicing and he passed out. I was so worried.  He was diagnosing with leukemia.  Even do his red hair felt of and he was not allowed to play baseball, his smile every time he saw me   never disappeared. And that’s how I remember him always been happy, but he dying, marked me forever.

Dear brother:

In  this last few days , we have   been desperate to  get to our destination.  It seems like we have  been gone very long , but  our captain  , Christopher,  says the opposite.  He has been  acting  with  guile toward us , but we have to have respect for our captain.
It was imperative  for us to find the promising  land.  But time flew by and we didn´t  find anything.
Days after,   the land  that we were waiting for appeared in a spontaneous manner. the captain was happy. And we enjoyed been by his side when   he was in his happy disposition.  But soon  his happiness disappeared when we  didn´t find what he expected.

Hope to see you soon,
Kristen.

The Vulture Eye

TRUE, I was really nervous. But am not mad. The disease I have sharpened my senses. So I had an acute hearing.

I loved the old man. Passion there was none. Object there was none. But it was his eye! Soon as I think of it I grimaced. I had to kill him.

You fancy me mad. That’s the point. But you should have seen how gingerly I proceed. My endeavor to kill him was surprising. I had an inventory of everything I had to do.  I was never, NEVER kinder to the old man before I killed him. Every night at midnight I would go in to his room so gingerly waiting for his eye to be open. So wisely. A madman had been so wise as this?

I did this for 7 long nights. Until the 8th night. I went into his room as usual.  he was clad in his blankets. Suddenly, one sound only one little mistake woke him up. He started screaming nervously who was it. Soon I could feel his fear coming from his soul. I stayed very still, but I knew that feeling. My disease every night made me feel the fear of others.  So it wasn´t a new thing for me.

I waited a long time, and then, I proceeded. I opened the lantern. Soon as I opened ,I saw the eye . that vulture eye.

Have I told you am not mad?  Is but  over acuteness  of senses? Soon ,I heard a quick sound. I knew  that sound. It was the beating of the old man´s heart. It was such in a abrasive way, which made me furious.

I held still the lantern so I could see his eye. I knew how dehydrated he feels when he is scared, so he looked all sweat up.  The heart beat grew  louder, and louder every instant.  His terrors had been extreme!!   The old man´s hour had come, I had to kill him. In a cursory way I pulled him to the floor. He was electrified!!  However, I pulled the heavy bed in top of him. I smiled, it was  done. I could hear his heart beat. But he was stone dead. His eye would not trouble me no more.

I still   you think me mad, you will not   when I tell you the precautions I took with the body.

I took three planks from the flooring of the chamber , and deposited all between the scantlings. There was not single evidence that a person’s eye could see.

Later I heard a knocking in the door. I went with no fear an opened it. There came in 3 men who were police. A neighbor had heard a mysterious sound and they informed it.
I had no fear at all. I welcomed them, and explain them   that the noise came from me when I was having a bad dream.  I mentioned that  the old man was out of the country. I showed them the entire  house and comforted  them with sits  in the same room where I had killed the old man. While I seated in the very spot where the victim was.

I had to corroborate with all their interrogatory. The officers were pleased. But suddenly I felt myself getting pale and wishing them gone. I could hear an annoying ringing. The ringing became louder. Then I realized the noise was not within my ears.

It was a doll quick sound. Like a watch makes when is enveloped in cotton.  Talked quickly, and the officers didn’t even noticed. I tried to simulate I was fine. But every time was louder!!  How can they not hear it? No .  It was impossible for them not to. Quick I surmise and I was Shure they knew. They  kept laughing! Soon I derive. They were making fun of me!! I could bear those hypocrites smiles no longer. I felt I had to scream or die. It grew louder and louder.

I succumb the crime!! I admit the deed! Stop making fun of me! its the beating of   the old man´s  heart!! Soon I told them every gruesome detail…
